Sun Lane masterplan shaped by Alresford community

Seaward Properties Ltd will be hosting a follow up public exhibition on Tuesday 10th May at the New Alresford Community Centre to discuss the progress of their masterplan for the future development of land to the east of Sun Lane.

Seaward Properties Ltd is promoting the site at Sun Lane, which is Winchester City Council preferred option for future housing in New Alresford in the Local Plan.

The Local Plan Part 2 was submitted to the Inspector for examination on 23 March 2016, with hearings expected to take place in July.

To gain community involvement in the production of the site’s concept masterplan, Seaward Properties Ltd hosted a public exhibition on 10th February 2016. The exhibition asked residents to provide their preference on the design and size of the 320 new homes, the look and uses of the 15 hectares of open space and the design of the employment zone premises.

To support the public exhibition, Seaward Properties Ltd has been meeting with residents who live immediately around the site, as well as community groups to gain an understanding about their priorities for the site. From the feedback received, residents identified the following priorities for Sun Lane:

• A preference for small housing units (one – three bed) to address those trying to get on the housing ladder and those looking to downsize.
• A preference for a scheme of high-quality, traditional design.
• A preference for the open space to have a natural, informal feel, with high-quality play areas, informal open space, areas of wildflower and grass planting, pathways for running, cycling and dog walking.
• A preference for the employment zone premises to be low level, barn style developments.

Seaward Properties Ltd has been working on the concept masterplan for Sun Lane since receiving this feedback and will be hosting a follow up public exhibition to show residents their progress.

The public exhibition will take place on Tuesday 10th May at Alresford Community Centre on West Street, between 3.30pm and 7.30pm.
