Alresford Professional Group plans present uncoordinated approach for the future of the town

On Saturday 22nd November the Alresford Professional Group (APG) held a second public exhibition to publish an alternative plan for future development in the town, in the face of extensive consultation and community dialogue which has already been carried out by Winchester City Council (WCC).

As the promoter of land to the east of Sun Lane, WCC's and New Alresford Town Council's preferred option for future growth in New Alresford, Seaward Properties has carefully reviewed the alternative proposals on which neither they, nor the land owners, were consulted.

Sean Phillips, Chief Executive for Seaward Properties, commented:

"In contrast to the aspirations of the draft Local Plan, the APG plans promote the delivery of new homes in a piecemeal fashion across the town, failing to take into account the difficulties of multiple site ownerships.

"In presenting a plan which claims to help reduce the impact of future development in Alresford, the group has instead afforded the opportunity for multiple sites to come forward at any time, without proper consideration or consultation on the potential impact for New Alresford residents."

He added:

"Our proposals for the land at Sun Lane represent a transparent, considered and holistic approach which not only meets the requirements of the Local Plan, but also can be appropriately phased and controlled.

"Whilst the APG has claimed that only one in ten residents support the draft Local Plan, the discussions we had with the many local people who attended the exhibition on 7th November suggests there is a very balanced opinion in the town."

He concluded:

"We are committed to working with the New Alresford community to bring forward a host of wider benefits, which cannot be realised through a fragmented approach to future development. However, we would encourage those residents who were unable to attend the exhibition to visit our website and provide us with their feedback."
